In 1987, the J Sisters began offering the beauty secrets of Brazil to a growing roster of customers. Their salon, located on 57Th Street in the heart of Manhattan, is home to their signature nail services— which first garnered acclaim because of their meticulous attention to detail. In 1994, they moved beyond nails and became the pioneers of the Brazilian Bikini Waxing in the United States. Today, the salon provides a variety of services to over 300 satisfied clients each day.
Jocely, Jonice, Janea, Joyce, Juracy, Jussara and Judeseia, collectively known as the J Sisters, began their training in the family run salon in Vitoria, Brazil. There they were taught that personal grooming was serious business. “In Brazil, manicures and pedicures are intensive treatments, not just a change of polish,” Jonice says. “We focus on the natural nail and take the time to help them grow longer and stronger.” Clients must commit their time as well with one hour for a manicure and up to two hours for a pedicure.
As the salon grew the sisters took a chance on the introduction of the Brazilian Bikini Wax. “In Brazil, waxing is part of our culture because bikinis are so small,” Jonice explains. “We thought it was an important service to add because personal care is no longer a luxury, it’s a necessity.” The risk paid off, the Brazilian Bikini Wax is now the most requested service.
The J Sisters have built a loyal following by making the warm and inviting atmosphere as important as the services they offer. Although their clients include a long list of celebrity names, everyone who walks through the door is important. Now at the forefront of his 30 year career and the J Sisters Salon, Jean Francois further lends his amazing talent to take the salon and his work to extraordinary new heights that continues to advance the unique and professional work of the J Sisters. Working in the likes of Vidal Sassoon to Jacques Dessange and across the globe from Montreal to London, he made his way to New York where he became a leading part of the J Sister’s family whose professional and personal aspirations created a bond that has continued to grow for nearly 20 years.
